LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – An 11-inning, midweek contest ended in McNeese’s favor as the visiting Cowgirls slipped by No. 9 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball 5-4 on Wednesday evening at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.

A flurry of action down the stretch of regulation, which saw the two teams combine for seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings, was capped off by a two-run home run from Raina O’Neal which pulled Louisiana (23-4) into a 4-all tie.

The Cowgirls (13-17) were able to break the stalemate in extra innings by taking advantage of a pair of fielding miscues in the 11th inning to push across the tiebreaking run.

Louisiana had its eight-game winning streak snapped and was dealt its first home loss of the season.

LEADING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS
Alissa Dalton produced a game-high three hits (3-for-5) for her fifth multiple-hit game. She scored a run in the fifth inning which allowed Louisiana to answer McNeese’s three-spot in the frame.

Julie Rawls was 2-for-3 at the plate giving her a fifth multiple-hit game in the past six outings. The junior catcher stretched her current hitting streak to a season-best seven games.

O’Neal posted her seventh home run of the season with the two-run shot giving her team-high RBI honors.

Sarah Hudek’s sacrifice fly in the second inning provided Louisiana with an early lead and the game’s only run in the first four innings.

Casidy Chaumont’s double in the fifth inning scored Dalton putting the Ragin’ Cajuns in position to force extra innings on O’Neal’s home run in the sixth inning.

Summer Ellyson posted her third double-digit strikeout total in the past two weeks, collecting 11 strikeouts and fanning four different Cowgirls multiple times.
