A non-profit organization in Baton Rouge is recognizing officers for the kind acts they perform in the community.
Beyond the Badge has spotlighted 17 law enforcement officers from around the state including two Lafayette Sheriff’s Office deputies and five Lafayette Police officers.
The officers were recognized at a luncheon Tuesday in Baton Rouge.
Two of the recipients, Corporal Heather Martin of the Lafayette Police Department and Major Todd
Morris of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office were presented with the 2019 Service Before
Self award.
The Service Before Self award is given to the officer whose act of kindness stands out in
the field of nominees, according to the organization.
According to a release, officers were given an award packet that included a $100 Visa gift card and a framed Louisiana state flag that had been flown over the Louisiana State Capitol for a day in his or her honor. The Service Before Self honorees each received a $500 Visa gift card, in addition to the flag, and all officers received a congratulatory letter from President Donald Trump and an official statement of recognition from Governor John Bel Edwards.
