18 horses removed from Vernon Parish horse lot due to neglect

18 horses in Pitkin have been removed from a lot after alleged neglect.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture Livestock Brand Commission executed a search warrant at the Thompson Horse Lot located on Donald Perkins Road in Pitkin.

The search warrant was in relation to numerous complaints regarding alleged neglect of livestock.

A veterinarian evaluated approximately 40 head of horses at the location. 18 of the animals were seized and transferred from the property to an alternate location, according to deputies.

The Brand Commission is conducting an investigation into the dates and locations of the animal’s purchase.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing and criminal charges are expected.
