New Iberia woman, boyfriend arrested for alleged abuse of 1-year-old

A New Iberia woman and her boyfriend are under arrest following alleged abuse of a 1-year-old child.

Police say the child is currently in the hospital with injuries inflicted on him by the mother’s boyfriend. Arrested in this incident was 25-year-old Jorretta Carrere of New Iberia and 43-year-old Tony Domingue.

Monday evening, Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of alleged child abuse involving the one-year-old boy from Investigators with the Iberia Police Department. The alleged incident was reported to authorities with Iberia Police Department and further investigation revealed that the alleged abuse took place in St. Martin Parish.

Upon investigation, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigators say that the child sustained severe injuries that were inflicted upon him by Domingue who is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, Carrere. The child was taken to a local hospital.  Deputies say that as of Tuesday night, he remains hospitalized.

At the culmination of the investigation, warrants of arrests were obtained and the following two individuals were arrested and charged as follows:

Tony Domingue was arrested and charged with the following:

  • 1 count Hate Crimes
  • 1 count Second Degree Cruelty To Juveniles (Felony)
  • 1 count Aggravated Second Degree Battery (Felony)

Jorretta Carrere was arrested and charged with the following:

  • 1 count Principal to Hate Crimes (Felony)
  • 1 count Principal to Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles (Felony)
  • 1 count Principal to Aggravated Second Degree Battery (Felony)

Both were booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center. No bond has been set.
