Beads are part of the Mardi Gras celebration and LSU researchers are looking to make beads more environmentally friendly.

Those researchers have developed a “biodegradable” bead they hope will reduce plastic waste during mardi gras.

“You start thinking why is this guy throwing biodegradable beads and you start thinking do we still need to be throwing such a huge amount of beads,” said LSU associate professor Dr. Naohiro Kato.
