Arrest made in fatal Opelousas shooting

An arrest has been made in the homicide of a 22-year-old Opelousas man.

Investigators were able to gather enough probable cause to secure an arrest warrant for Darrell Young, 31, of Opelousas, on Wednesday, according to Major Mark Guidry, Spokesperson for Opelousas Police Dept.

John O’Neal Jason was killed from a single gunshot wound to the head around 2:00 am on Statesman Road on January 10. 2019. Neighbors in the area did hear the gunshot. Jason’s body was located that morning by police along the railroad tracks.

Young was already incarcerated at the St. Landry Parish Jail for a previous arrest on January 27, 2019. He was booked on the additional charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm, stated Guidry.
