Coast Guard: 4 rescued near Venice after boat collision

The Coast Guard says that 4 people have been rescued Saturday following a two-boat collision near Baptiste Collette Bayou.

At around 10:45 a.m. the Coast Guard says they were notified of a vessel collision involving a 40-foot commercial deck boat with eight people aboard and a 24-foot bay boat with four people aboard. All four people from the bay boat were ejected into the water.

The crew of the commercial deck boat threw life jackets to the four people and brought them aboard.

A Coast Guard boat crew who arrived at 11:05 a.m. and transported the four individuals to Venice where they were then taken to the hospital.

The bay boat is half sunken in Baptiste Collete Bayou outside the channel awaiting salvage, according to officials

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
