UPDATE: St. Landry School Board appoints Ambres to Miller’s post

The St. Landry School Board has appointed John Miller’s defeated opponent to fill his seat.

Miller died last week. He was elected to the board last fall, defeating incumbent Milton Ambres. Miller’s widow, Catherine Miller, also wanted to be appointed to the seat.

The board voted 7-5 to appoint Ambres.

The appointee will hold the seat until a special election can be held.

Ambres was first elected to the board in 2013, to serve out Miller’s term when he resigned after being convicted of bribery.

In other business, the board approved a school calendar that includes a week of vacation following Easter Sunday.

ORIGINAL STORY:  The St. Landry Parish School Board will discuss and possibly take action during Thursday’s meeting on who the next District 3 School Board member will be after John Miller died last week.

Miller was recently elected on December 8, 2018, to serve as the District 3 School Board member for St. Landry Parish School District.

Miller died on Monday, January 28, 2019. He was 77 years old.
