ST. LANDRY PARISH – Students at Washington Elementary celebrated the holidays with their annual Christmas program Friday morning.

There were performances by students, consisting of singing and dancing. Students from Pre-K through 8th grade performed a few holiday selections, including “Here Comes Santa Claus” and “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.”

“Because it’s the season of giving, I think it’s just wonderful that they are doing this for our kids. We want this holiday season to be a very joyous occasion for our kids at Washington Elementary,” says principal Brenda Lavergne.

Towards the end of the program, students were given gifts bags to take home. Two local rappers, Vernon Maestro and DJ No Way, provided the toys for the students.

“The community has really embraced the programs and students at Washington Elementary,” says Lavergne. “Giving donations, toys, resources, and volunteering in the classrooms… We have an abundance of support from our community.”
