The mother of an 11-month-old baby and her boyfriend were arrested Monday, accused of murder and cruelty after the child died following severe burns to his body.

Police in DeRidder say the child was found with severe burns to the lower part of his body when firefighters arrived following a call of the child being unresponsive. CPR was started and the child was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Officers say that the baby suffered severe burns that occurred two weeks prior and died from lack of care to those burns.

The child’s mother 24-year-old Shamira Kimbrough and her boyfriend 25-year-old Christian Coutee of DeRidder were arrested on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

Bond has been set at $1.9 million dollars.
