Roger D. “Tony” Laughlin has won the race for mayor in Elton by getting 55% of the vote, “Cathy” Hollingsworth received 44%.
In the Town of Welsh, voters approved the renewal of a 1-cent sales tax for 25 years. The tax raises about $425,000 annually and is used for police and fire department buildings and equipment; drainage, recreation; sidewalks and bridges; recreation; drainage; streets and public works in the town. It passed with 77% of the vote.
Seven Fire Protection Districts asked voters to renew property taxes that supported their operations:
In Fire Protection Dist. No. 1 a 10.86 Mill tax was renewed for 10 years. It raises about $43,000 annually for operations of the district. It passed with 77% of the vote.
In Fire Protection District No. 2, voters approved the renewal of an 11.91 mill tax that raises about $497,000 annually for fire protection in the district. It passed with 71% of the vote.
In Fire Protection Dist. No. 3, voters approved the renewal of a 5.23 Mill tax that raises about $254,000 annually for district operations. It passed with 71% of the vote.
In Fire Protection District No. 4, voters approved the renewal of a 6.91 Mill tax that raises about $114,000 annually for fire protection. It passed with 78% of the vote.
In Fire Protection Dist. No. 5, voters approved the renewal of a 5.03 Mill tax that raises about $112,000 annually for district operations. It passed with 80% of the vote.
Fire Protection Dist. No. 6, voters approved the renewal of an 8.66 Mill tax that raises about $98,000 annually for fire protection. It passed with 75% of the vote.
And, in Fire Protection Dist. No. 7, voters approved the renewal of a 9.80 Mill tax that raises about $14,000 for operations. It passed with 78 percent of the vote.
All of the taxes were renewed for 10 years.
