The Waitr app is making sure some families in Louisiana don’t go hungry this week, free of charge.

The company is delivering food to families in need this thanksgiving week.

“This week is an opportunity for us to share a meal for those in need in the communities that we serve,” CEO Chris Meaux said.

Meaux and his wife missy are delivering meals to 2,000 families in need across the state, including some here in Acadiana.

Customers donated money for the meals through the app and area restaurants matched those donations.

“I’m definitely excited about today and blessing all the families that are going to be able to receive these meals. It’s very gratifying and humbling,” Missy said.

Monday morning the company delivered food from Ground Pat’i Grille & Bar to the Eaglin household in Lafayette.

“That was a blessing that we didn’t even know that we was having,” Elnora Eaglin said. “We be having hard times. Sometimes we don’t have enough food.”

This Thanksgiving, the Eaglins won’t have to worry.

“When you see those kind of things happen, you realize what Waitr does is more than just get food to people who are hungry,” Chris said. ” We give food to people in need when they may not have other options or they may not know their options at the time. That’s when you realize what we’re doing now touches so many lives.”
