Veterans Day events and freebies in Acadiana

Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11.

On that day, the country honors and remembers all of those who have fought, and those who are currently enlisted. KATC thanks you for your service.

Businesses and restaurants are offering retired, active and reserved military members discounts and freebies. We have compiled a list with as many events and deals that we could find.

 

November 10

Carencro’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony & Patriotic Celebration is scheduled Nov. 10 at the Carencro Veterans Memorial, 210 E Saint Peter St., next to City Hall, at 10 a.m. This year’s activities include special recognition of Vietnam War veterans. All veterans and the public are invited to this free community event.

The event agenda is as follows:

9-10 a.m. – Carencro Cultural District Artwalk opens with vendor booths

10-11:15 a.m. – Veterans Day Ceremony
• Recognition of all veterans in attendance and all branches of the military
• Tribute to Vietnam War veterans
• Student patriotic essay winners recognized
• Remembrance of Lafayette Parish Vietnam War veterans KIA

11:15 a.m.-1 p.m.
Carencro Cultural District Artwalk resumes
• Vendor booths
• Young Artist Series student art display
• Live patriotic music in the Patriots Pavilion
• Light refreshments

The Carencro Veterans Memorial has opened brick sales for anyone interested in recognizing a veteran in this special way. All veterans are eligible. The purchase of a brick makes for a unique gift to honor veterans, as they become a permanent legacy in memorial plaza. Order your bricks now as a special Christmas gift. Bricks ordered in this phase will be installed by Veterans Day 2019, and you can download a certificate to present to the recipient.

November 10

St. Martinville Veterans Day Celebration

The City of St. Martinville, along with Isidore Lewis, Jr. American Legion Post 419, invite you to join them for A St. Martinville Veterans Day Celebration from 9 am – 3 pm on Nov 10, 2018, at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site.

All veterans are invited for a fellowship breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 am. Come to join your fellow veterans for conversation along with coffee and donuts.

The Veterans Day ceremony begins at 9am with a flag raising, followed by the pledge and a 21-gun salute. A special veteran guest speaker has been invited. There will also be a special tribute to veterans who were POWS. A Veteran`s Prayer will end these ceremonies.

The Cajun and Creole Cookers will be out that day, and a meal will be served at noon.

From 1-3pm, breakout sessions will offer information and discussions about such things as gun safety and nature survival, building a fire and pitching a tent for young boys and men.

Additional sponsors include Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, the Cajun and Creole Cookers, the Knights of Peter Claver and the Alphas.

All activities take place at Longfellow-Evangeline at 1200 No. Main St., 337-394-3754. The programs are all free of charge. Boys under the age of 12 are required to be accompanied by an adult.

First Baptist Veteran’s Day Luncheon

First Baptist Church Youngsville cordially invites all veterans and their families in this area to a complimentary luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 10, 11:00 am. All military persons will be celebrated and honored with patriotic music, a full honor guard to present flags as well as a 21 gun salute. Ron Crowley, a three-time purple heart Marine, will give a short message. Recognition and door prizes will conclude the event. Call 337-856-5806 to make reservations.

Salute to Veterans – Canceled 

The House of Faith Church and Oil of Joy Faith Ministries will host Salute To Veterans in Historic Pontiac Point Park, 100 Moss St., Lafayette, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2018. Miss Bee’s Chuckwagon Food Truck will be on site. For details, call 337-315-7472.

Bonefish Grill free appetizer for veterans

This Veterans Day, the fresh fish experts at Bonefish Grill are honoring and thanking the brave with a complimentary Bang Bang Shrimp. On Sunday, November 11, all active and retired service members with a valid military ID will receive a complimentary appetizer at all Bonefish Grill locations. Breaux Bridge Veterans Day Celebration – Relocated

The Veterans Day celebration in Breaux Bridge organized by St. Bernard Catholic Church has been moved due to weather concerns on Sunday.  The Breaux Bridge Veterans Park location will change to the St. Bernard School Gym located at 251 E. Bridge Street. All program times will remain the same.

The ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. and will continue through 11:00 a.m.

Veterans and Active Military Invited for Free Lunch

Texas Roadhouse invites veterans and active members of U.S. military across the country to enjoy free lunch on Sunday, November 11. For the eighth year, every Texas Roadhouse location across the country will participate in the free lunch event to honor the men and women of our armed forces.

All veterans – including all active, retired, or former U.S. military – can choose one of 10 entrees from our special Veterans Day menu, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, sweet tea/iced tea or coffee during lunch. Proof of service includes military or VA card, or discharge papers.

Texas Roadhouse appreciates the men and women of our armed forces. Each year, we honor their commitment to protecting our nation by hosting a free lunch for all active and retired military.

Patriotic Town

Drive through a very patriotic town in Acadiana. More than 100 American flags are placed in Iota for Veterans Day. The flags went up earlier in the week going through town, all the way to the elementary school. Down 5th street.

St. Joseph Dedication

St. Joseph Hospice will have a dedication honoring the deceased veterans on 11/11 at 1:30 pm at The Carpenter House, 923 W. Pinhook.

Landry’s Seafood Veterans Day Discount

Nothing says “Thank You” like an incredible breakfast and Shoney’s is going to prove it, as the iconic all-American restaurant brand will thank the nation’s veterans and troops with a FREE All You Care To Eat, Freshly Prepared Breakfast Bar when Veterans Day is being observed as a federal holiday: Monday, November 12, 2018, from open – 11 am. The only Shoney’s in Acadiana are in Jennings and Morgan City and both confirmed they are offering this free deal.  You will need to show proof of military service (military or VA card, or discharge papers).
