**This article previously stated that Davis’ challenger and winner of the county clerk position,  Democrat Elwood Caudill Jr., was one of the men to which Davis refused to issue a marriage license. That was incorrect.  In 2015, Davis refused to issue a marriage license to David Ermold because he is gay. Ermold ran against Caudill during the Kentucky Democratic Primary but lost by 1,000 votes.
