Rice Festival set up has started – Carnival opens Thursday

Set-up has begun for the 82nd International Rice Festival in downtown Crowley.

The festival, which claims to be the oldest and largest agricultural festival in Louisiana, launches tomorrow with a rice grading event and a Senior Citizens’ Ball.

The carnival, food and music begins Thursday.

Planned events include food, parades, musical entertainment, various contests such as Jr. King & Queen Contest, Rice Queen Contest, International Rice Eating Contest, Rice and Creole Cookery Contest, Accordion and Fiddle Contest, International Rice “Poker” Run, Classic Car Show, Rice Grading Contest, Rice Threshing Demonstration and 5K Run Walk and street carnival.
