Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana now has more new male mentors than they’ve seen in years because of the response to our last story with them.
About a month ago KATC introduced Acadiana to a 13-year-old named Ja’quoin who had been on the wait list to get a ‘big brother’ for at least two years. This weekend, Ja’quoin finally got off the waitlist and KATC tagged along as he met his big brother.
They’ve never spoken or been face to face but it was Ja’quoin that inspired his new big brother to become a mentor. Quincy Filer had seen him on KATC.
“Immediately when I looked at the story, the next day, the following day I called,” says Filer.
A few weeks later, and big brothers big sisters created a perfect match. They talked sports, school and laser tag and are looking forward to learning and growing in the years ahead.
“Now we’re going to be brothers forever, and I will guide you and keep you on the right path,” says Filer.
