Foster Friends of Acadiana is honoring a volunteer for her work in the community.

Allix Chapman was named Volunteer of the Year during a ceremony Thursday.

Chapman not only works with foster kids through the program, but she also runs her own charity selling baked goods to raise money for homeless and underprivileged children around Acadiana.

Chapman, who has autism, works with her mother to bake homemade cakes, chocolate cover Oreos and treats for numerous non-profits and community events including Foster Friends and Bridge Ministries, organizers say.

Organizers presented Allix with a glass award.
