A man from Baldwin was found guilty today by a jury of vehicular homicide.

State police say 63-year-old Harold Melancon, Sr. was leaving Candy’s Bar in St. Mary Parish on August 5, 2017, when he didn’t yield at an intersection on Hwy. 182 and collided with a motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 29-year-old Erin Demarco, of Franklin, was ejected from the motorcycle and killed.

According to a release from the district attorney’s office, Melancon’s blood alcohol concentration was .130 at the time of the crash.

Sentencing has been set for December 10, 2018.

Melancon faces a mandatory minimum of 5-30 years in prison.

He was previously convicted four times of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, dating back to 1985, the release states.
