Tropical Storm Gordon will continue on a northwesterly track toward the northern Gulf Coast during the day today and should make landfall later this evening or overnight tonight. Tropical Storm Warnings are posted from Morgan City eastward to the Louisiana/Mississippi state line. Hurricane Warnings are posted from there eastward to the Alabama/Florida state line, with tropical storm warnings along the Florida panhandle. Storm surge warnings are also posted for parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida where water levels could rise as much as 3-5 feet as Gordon moves onshore.

Tropical Storm Gordon, as of 7am is located at 28.1N and 86.2W or about 190 miles ESE of the Mouth of the Mississippi River. Winds are peaking at 65 mph with higher gusts. Gordon is moving WNW at 15 mph and is expected to reach land sometime later today. The next full update including a new track and cone will be released at 10am.

Impacts to the local Acadiana area are expected to be minimal. Scattered rains are forecast today and tomorrow, although most models are forecasting the extreme rainfall amounts to stay well east of the area. Heaviest rains are forecast from the coasts of Alabama and Mississippi, then inland northwest through Jackson and continuing into Arkansas. Winds will likely stay well below tropical storm force in our area.

Continue to monitor the progress of Gordon. This will be a good dry run when it comes to preparing.
