St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Franklin man after finding him driving a stolen excavator, a spokesman said.
Ryan Leblanc, 25, was booked with unauthorized use of a movable and released after posting $1,000 bond.
Leblanc was arrested Saturday after a deputy on patrol in Centerville saw an excavator being driven with the boom up. The excavator collided with several power lines near Parish Road 131, the spokesman said.
The deputy stopped the vehicle, and spoke to Leblanc. The deputy learned that Leblanc had taken the excavator from a sugar cane field loading site, and when he spoke to the owner, learned that Leblanc didn’t have permission to take it, the spokesman said.
