SLEMCO will be opening an additional service center in Broussard by year’s end; officials say it will help them more efficiently provide electric service in the fast-growing area.

“After analyzing the statistics of where headquarter field crews work each day, our management team realized we could more effectively serve our customers in both South Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes, if we had a fully-staffed service center located nearby,” said Mary Laurent, SLEMCO communications manager. “Cost savings in travel time, man-hours, fuel, and wear and tear on our trucks all pointed to the same conclusion.”

A large percentage of service orders, work orders and outage calls worked out of SLEMCO’s company headquarters near Carencro, are in the South Lafayette/St. Martin Parish area, Laurent said.  In addition to cost savings, response time for SLEMCO members in the area will be faster once the new service center is operational because crews and equipment will be close by, she said.

SLEMCO provides electric power to more than 108,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers throughout Acadiana.
