A Lafayette man is facing terrorizing charges after he threaten to shoot people in the Northgate Mall.

According to police reports 67-year-old Joseph Handy entered a store in the mall and placed a gun on the store counter and said that he was going to kill four people.  Handy didn’t indicate who he planned to kill at the time.

Police say Handy then spoke to the owner of the store on the phone and left the scene after the owner told him that police had been contacted.

Police later arrested Handy in the mall parking lot in his vehicle; he allegedly still had the gun, under his shirt. Police say they seized a gun and a loaded magazine from Handy.

Handy was booked with Terrorizing and illegal carrying of a weapon; he remains in Lafayette Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $20,000 bond.
