The Board of Directors of Downtown Lafayette Unlimited has voted to support the proposed changes to the Lafayette City-Parish Charter.

The main thrust of the proposed changes, which are on tomorrow’s City-Parish Council agenda, is to split the council back into a City Council and a Parish Council.

“We believe a council focused on the city of Lafayette will create more opportunities to move the downtown area, and the city as a whole, forward,” said Mike Delcambre, president of the board.

Downtown Lafayette Unlimited is committed to the economic and cultural revitalization of the downtown district – restoring and preserving its important place as the center of life in Acadiana, a release from the group says.

"DLU strives to provide the private sector leadership and coordination needed in the revitalization effort, and we believe amending the Lafayette Consolidated Government charter would aid in that mission," the release states.

“We hope our LCG representatives will approve the amendment Tuesday night so the people of Lafayette can vote on this important issue," Delcambre said.
