There are a lot of political activities going on this week across Acadiana.

Here’s a list:

On Monday, the Vermilion Parish School Board will hold a special meeting to discuss the "character and competence" of Superintendent Jermone Puyau. This comes just weeks after the release of state test scores, which showed the parish once again topping Acadiana and the state in students’ mastery on the tests. When those scores were released, Puyau was in Washington D.C., representing the state of Louisiana before Congress. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Lafayette City-Parish Council will take up the proposals to ask voters to change the charter. The aim is to split the council back into a City Council and a Parish Council, so that only officials elected by city residents decide the spending of city assets. If the current proposal is approved, voters would decide the changes in December. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, qualifying opens for the District 26 seat in the Louisiana Senate. The seat became vacant after Johnathan Perry was elected without opposition to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Qualifying continues through Friday. Eligible candidates must qualify with the Clerk of Court in the parish where they are registered to vote. The district includes portions of Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry and Vermilion parishes. To see a map of the district, click here

On Thursday, the Lafayette City-Parish Council will begin its annual budget hearings at 1 p.m. with a review of the budgets of the Parks and Recreation,
Planning, Zoning & Development,  Adult Correction, Information Services and Police departments.
