The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Marine Section responded to a report of a fuel spill in the Bayou Teche in the Centerville area around 12:25 p.m.
The Marine Section located a sheen on the water and believe the affected area to be a mile long across the bayou.
The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene.
The public is asked to avoid the area.
