Abbeville Police and Vermilion Narcotics officers arrested two local men on drug charges this week following pursuits.

Justin "Poppa" Williams, 29, was arrested Monday and booked with possession with intent to distribute crack, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug proceeds, in addition to several outstanding narcotics warrants for his arrest.

Narcotics agents got a tip about his whereabouts and went to serve the warrants, a spokesman said. But Williams got into a vehicle and tried to flee, the spokesman said. Officers stopped the vehicle, but Williams got out and ran on foot, crossed a large coulee and ran into the woods. Two K-9 officers arrived to search the woods, and Williams came out and was arrested without incident, the spokesman said.

The warrants against Williams accuse him of seven counts Contempt of Court; attempted second-degree murder; racketeering; possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting arrest by force; possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone, marijuana and cocaine; obstruction of justice; illegal use of weapons; aggravated flight from an officer; possession of proceeds from drug offenses; and no safety belt.

Last night, officers attempted a traffic stop and ended up arresting another Abbeville man on drug charges. Deputies say they tried to pull over a driver for a traffic violation, but instead he fled and ended up crashing his vehicle.

Donovan Jones, 34, was booked with possession with intent to distribute oxycodone, marijuana and ecstacy; possession of xanax, adderall, buprenorphine and drug paraphernalia; obstruction of justice; and aggravated flight from an officer. He’s being held on a probation violation, so no bond has been set for his release.
