A special election has been called to fill the seat vacated by Sen. Johnathan Perry in Senate District 26.

Perry was the only person to qualify for a bench on the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, meaning he automatically won the election, leaving his senate seat vacant.

The primary will be on the November 6 ballot, with a runoff on December 8 if necessary.

Qualifying will be August 8 through 10. Eligible candidates must qualify with the Clerk of Court in the parish where they are registered to vote. The district includes portions of Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry and Vermilion parishes.
