St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s deputies are identifying the man found dead in a car on Hwy. 31 in St. Martinville last night.
Deputies say 36-year-old Demarcus Joseph Fontenot, of New Iberia, had been shot multiple times. Another man inside the car, who also appeared to have been shot multiple times, was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Deputies received the call from a passing driver at 8:15 p.m. The car was found on the highway near the St. Martin/Iberia Parish line.
Law enforcement officers had part of LA 31 blocked as they investigated.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
