An Iota man was killed on his bicycle this morning in Acadia Parish.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., State Police Troop I was notified of a fatal crash on LA 100, east of LA 3070.
Troopers say 31-year-old Anthony Leger was riding eastbound in the westbound lane of the highway when a truck crossed into the westbound lane and began passing eastbound vehicles. When doing so, the truck hit Leger’s bicycle, according to a state police spokesman. Troopers say the truck entered into a legal passing zone.
Leger sustained critical injuries and was transported to a Crowley hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The spokesman says the driver of the truck was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Troopers determined the driver was not impaired, according to a chemical test.
A standard toxicology sample was obtained from Leger and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
