24 Hour Citizen Project announces teams selected to pitch ideas

The 24 Hours Citizen Project has announced the eight ideas being considered during their annual event in Lafayette. Jefferson St. Pub will host the third iteration of the 24 Hour Citizen Project where citizens present community enhancement ideas and compete for funding.Teams will receive guidance from area professionals before pitching their ideas to a panel of backers and an audience at the event on Saturday, August 11, 2018. The goal is to receive funding to make their ideas a reality. This year, eight teams were selected by a committee to pitch their ideas at the event.   “Motivate the Vote” — A service aimed at providing non-partisan information on upcoming elections and amendment, as well as reaching inactive voters. “Freetown Family” —  An effort to brand now-historic Freetown and provide a unique sense of identity to the downtown Lafayette neighborhood. “BARE Walls” —  A project focused on providing turnkey services to businesses in the area that works with local artists to fill their walls with art. “Long Table” — Hopes to provide an environment using food as a common thread to ignite honest conversations aimed at fostering cultural understanding. “Eyes of the Sun” — Utilizing a poem written by incarcerated youth in Lafayette, this team hopes to inspire younger generations in the area and teach them about creativity by developing a mural project around town. “Bayou Electric Vehicles” — Wants to install public electric vehicle charging stations in a number of public stations around Lafayette. “Litterbug Elimination” — Is striving to educate the community on proper trash disposal and recycling best practices in a fun, easily accessible way. “Tell Me More” — Aims to introduce at-risk students to public performance in an effort to tell their story and forge mutual understanding of youth-police relations and cultural conflict.The pitch will take place at 6pm on Saturday, August 11, at Jefferson Street Pub, located at 500 Jefferson Street in downtown Lafayette. Attendance is free. Drinks and food will be available for purchase from the bar.
