Going to the Caribbean visitors expect to see beautiful waves of clear blue water, but at Playa Montesinos in the Dominican Republic, beachgoers are greeted by waves of trash.
According to Parley for the Oceans, this happens every time they see heavy. Parley for the Oceans is an non-governmental organization that addresses pollution in the world’s oceans, cleaning up plastic around the world, and promoting change.
For this project they are working with more than 500 public workers including the island’s armed forces and government officials to clean up the beach.
They have collected 30 tons of plastic in three days and will continue its clean-up mission for the rest of the week.
Most of the plastic collected will go to a landfill; some of it will be reused to create recycled products
