A groundbreaking ceremony was held today for a $4.2 million project will clear out the city’s drainage to prevent future flooding.

Crews will be widening channels and installing culverts.

"What this is going to do, it’s going to take 360 acres out of the flood zone for the city of Scott…and drop the B.F.E., base flood elevation, by two feet," said Purvis Morrison, Scott Mayor. "So as we are continuing to grow, I guess we are preparing to grow."

It is expected to be completed by summer 2020.
