Yesterday, teachers in St. Landry Parish got a start to the new school year by receiving training on new technology to be implemented in classrooms.

Teachers gathered at Beau Chene High School to get hands-on training in "Google Classroom" a free web service developed by Google to create, distribute, and grade assignments without using paper. The teachers also received training on several other programs during the session.

The Technology Day training event is put on annually by the St. Landry Parish School Board.

"Every year we add more and more technology to our school district," says Byron Wimberley Manager of the St. Landry Parish School Board Computer Center.  "We try to give professional development so teachers can utilize the software as best they can in their classrooms."

Some teachers even had the opportunity to showcase how they currently use technology in their classrooms to ensure student success.
