A broken air conditioner at the Plaquemines Animal Shelter in Belle Chasse is prompting a call for help from the Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society.

The agency says that the air condition went out at most of the facility on Tuesday night and was discovered when employees arrived to work on Wednesday morning. Workers also discovered that two kittens had died overnight in the facility. It is believed that heat was a factor in the deaths as the kittens were said to be healthy the day before.

The PAWS agency says they are in need of adopters and fosters to remove the animals from the shelter. The agency says it could take 2 weeks before the air conditioning is replaced in the building.

In the meantime, officials are asking for donations of portable air conditioning units, large fans, and frozen water bottles to keep the kennels and animals cool.

PAWS is located on 455 F Edward Hebert Blvd in Belle Chasse. The shelter can be reached at 504-392-1601 or by going online to paws4life.org.
