Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a wife in the death of her husband, a sheriff’s deputy, in their home.
Our media partners at The Advocate report that deputies arrested Shantel Wagner, 35, in the June death of her husband, Deputy Troy Smith.
Police were called to the couple’s Waggaman home at about 11:25 p.m. on June 17 after Wagner called 911 to report that her husband had attempted suicide by shooting himself. He had a gunshot wound to the head, but was still alive. He was taken to a hospital, where he died within a week.
