Mayor of New Iberia Freddie DeCourt confirmed in a Facebook post today that a Rouses and Hobby Lobby will be taking over the re-developed Kmart building in the city.
The building is located on the corner of S. Lewis Street and E. Admiral Doyle Drive. The site has been vacant since December of 2016 and construction began on the building this year.
Residents spoke with KATC in June and said they had heard rumors that a Rouses would be coming to the area. Their hope was that the new occupants would bring jobs and conveniences to the area.
