Sunset Police say they are waiting for the parents of the child found hitchhiking along Highway 93.
Officers say the 12-year-old, who is from Lafayette, is now in police care. The parents have been located and police are now waiting for them to arrive.
Officials say they are unsure of how the child made it to Sunset but he was not injured.
