A team of wounded veterans is making their way through Acadiana in their 12-week journey across America.

U.S. and U.K. veterans walked alongside the river at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center.

The thousand-mile walk is part of an effort to raise awareness about military mental health and money for wounded veterans.

The walk started in Los Angeles earlier this month and will end in New York City in September.

"If you think something’s not right, ask for help," said Kevin Carr, Royal Logistic Corps. "There’s always someone there. There’s too many people these days that say there’s nothing there. I told them who to talk to. Start by going on Walking With The Wounded website."
