A New Iberia Senior High student finished 5th at the National Microsoft Office Specialist Championship in Atlanta June 13-15.

In order to qualify for the competition, Johnathan Florsheim had to pass a Certiport Microsoft Office Specialist test to which he received a perfect score. According to Johnathan’s teacher, Karen Borne, Johnathan scored higher than more than 350,000 students in the U.S.

At nationals, there were 147 individuals that competed in 6 categories: Microsoft Word 2013, PowerPoint 2013, and Excel 2013, Microsoft Word 2016, PowerPoint 2016, and Excel 2016.

"As his teacher, I am so proud of what he accomplished this year in IBCA (, Introduction to Business Computer Applications) and at the competition. The opportunity to compete at a national level, the experience, and the knowledge he gained will surely be invaluable to his future. It has been my pleasure to teach him and be involved throughout the process of the competition. I am excited to see what the future holds for Johnathan, and with the work ethic he has shown, I have no doubt he will be successful," said Borne.
