The Franklin Police Department and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a man after executing a search warrant Monday night at a residence on Main Street in Franklin.

Monday night, several residents called KATC concerned about heavy police presence in the 300 block of Main Street in Franklin at around 9:00 pm.

St. Mary Parish deputies say they helped to assist the Franklin Police Department in arresting 19-year-old Michael Morris, Jr. who was wanted on several warrants for failure to appear. Deputies say they initiated a traffic stop on Morris’ vehicle where they made contact with and then arrested him.

During the stop, deputies also learned that Morris was wanted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office on a warrant of attempted first-degree murder and by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on a drug-related charge.

Morris was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center where he was booked and incarcerated. No bond has been set.

Morris was previously arrested by the Franklin Police Department in 2016 after an investigation into human trafficking. Read that story, here.
