Eighteen school gyms in Lafayette Parish will be a little more cooler when students return in August.
Crews are installing new air conditioning at the schools. Half are already up and running.
The school board approved more than 12-million dollars in bond funding for the project back in 2016.
"To make those facilities usable, you really need air conditioning," said Joe Craig, Chief Administrative Officer, LPSS. "Sometimes, it doesn’t cool off until late October. We have volleyball season going in full force, basketball season starting up and it’s still 80’s and low 90’s during the day. It’s just intolerable."
