Two organizations have their sights set for breaking a record.

The Elder Outreach and Team Mergist are hosting what they hope will be the world’s longest bingo game.

The game is now underway at the Southwind Healthcare and Rehab in Crowley. You have to have a ticket to enter, organizers say.

"This is a way to give back to the Alzheimer’s Association," said Christine Payton, Communication and Marketing Director, SLCC. "To bring awareness to the community, but also doing it in a fun way…bringing this Guinness world record attempt, kind of combining everything together in one event."

All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Longest Day – held on the actual longest day of the year, the summer solstice – honors the strength, passion and endurance of those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

Residents of six Elder Outreach communities will be participating in the event. Those include Southwind Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Southwind Senior Living Suites and Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, all of Crowley; Eastridge Senior Living Suites and Eastridge Nursing and Rehabilitation, both of Abbeville; and Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Maurice.

Most of the late-night and early-morning game will be played by volunteers and sponsors, organizers say.
