COVINGTON, La. (AP) – Authorities have recovered the body of a man who died after a boating incident in the West Pearl River.

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies found 33-year-old Chad Panks, of Pearl River, about 9 p.m. Friday. The body was turned over to the parish coroner’s office to determine an official cause of death.

Agents believe Panks’ vessel struck a submerged tree in the water causing it to sink.

According to family members, Panks was with his dog in his 15-foot aluminum boat traveling to his houseboat around 2 a.m. when the dog showed up at his residence alone around 3:30 p.m. Family members initiated a search and found Panks’ sunken boat about an hour later and notified authorities.
