Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of St. Landry-Evangeline hosted its annual Kids Benefit event today.

The banquet was held at the Opelousas Civic Center. Organizers say they host the program every year to highlight the accomplishments of CASA volunteers.

This year, the guest speaker was Ashley Rhodes-Courter, a former foster-care youth who was placed in 14 different foster homes in 10 years. She has become an award winning author and advocate for women and youth. Rhodes-Courter has shared her story with many individuals across the U.S. and in several countries. After spending over a decade of her life in foster care, Ashley earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work and became a foster parent and adoptive parent. .

There also was a silent auction to raise money for the program.
