Morgan City bank employee arrested in California after allegedly stealing funds

The Morgan City Police Department says that an employee of a local bank was arrested in Long Beach, California after an investigation into an alleged theft of funds. 

Police say that 37-year-old Stephanie L. Williams was arrested in Long Beach, California in connection with the theft of a local bank. Williams, according to police, was an employee of the bank. An investigation into the theft began after bank administrators noticed Williams had not reported for work and that all US currency in her cash drawer had allegedly been damaged. 

Police say that the administrators identified that a large sum of money was also missing from Williams’ drawer. 

A warrant was prepared for her arrest and police learned that Williams had fled to Long Beach, California. 

The department says they worked with the Long Beach Police Department in an effort to locate Williams. According to police, Williams was located and arrested in Long Beach on Tuesday, June 12 on charges of Theft over $25,000 and Criminal damage to property totaling $13,751. 

Williams is currently in the Long Beach Jail awaiting extradition to Morgan City.
