A man has been arrested for aggravated assault following a dispute involving children at a Crowley park.

Police responded to a disturbance in the 1800 block of Holly Street Friday afternoon.

According to Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, witnesses said a man started yelling and cursing at a baseball team and their parents while the kids were practicing at the park.

Police have identified the man as 40-year-old Benjamin Bertrand.

Witnesses continued to say that one of the parents went into Bertrand’s yard to speak with him, which is when Bertrand allegedly pulled out a gun.

Police arrested Bertrand for aggravated assault with a firearm after viewing video surveillance of the incident.

"Of course, we always want our children to feel safe in our local parks," Chief Broussard says. "If there is an emergency situation that requires further contact with either myself or a member of administration, that the public seek to do so and let us know, so we can respond immediately. We were able to avoid an unfortunate situation because we looked on social media; however, had we been made aware of this when it happened, we could have resolved it much quicker."

Bertrand was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail
