More information on homicide at New Iberia McDonald’s

One person is in custody in connection with a deadly shooting at the McDonald’s on Admiral Doyle Drive.

Iberia Parish sheriff’s deputies say they responded to the scene at 7:00 p.m. while working a call at a convenience store across the Street from the McDonalds. Deputies heard gunshots and observed several people fleeing the scene. Upon arrival, deputies say they say they found the victim, 20-year-old Levonne Johnson of Jeanerette shot multiple times in the restaurant’s parking lot. 

He died at the scene having been shot multiple times. Deputies say that they attempted to revive Johnson but were unsuccessful.

Deputies say they caught the suspect a short distance away from the scene.  That suspect is being held pending an interview.  He has not yet been booked in this case. Deputies are also investigating other possible suspects who may have been involved in the shooting.
