Louisiana State Police have arrested the driver involved in a single-vehicle crash that took the life of an unrestrained passenger in St. Landry Parish.

State Police say they have arrested 30-year-old Alfredo Segura-Prado of Bunkie on charges of vehicular homicide after a single-vehicle fatal crash on June 3 on LA 182 near Cotten Patch Road.

Troopers say that Prado was driving north on LA 182 in a 2005 GMC Sierra when the vehicle crossed the centerline into the southbound lane while in a left curve. In an attempt to correct the vehicle, troopers say Prado overcorrected to the right, running off the roadway. Troopers say the vehicle began to overturn and struck a tree.

A 34-year-old passenger, who troopers say was unrestrained during the crash, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office. The identity of the victim will be released once immediate the family has been notified.

Troopers say Prado was also not wearing a seat belt during the crash and received serious injuries. He was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, according to Troopers.

Troopers say that impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash. A  sample was taken from Prado for analysis.

Prado was arrested by State Police on charges of Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation, Driving Left of Center, and No Seat Belt. According to troopers, Prado will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail upon his release from the hospital.
