Beaumont Drug Enforcement Agents (DEA) say they intercepted an 18-wheeler carrying a large amount of suspected drug money to the Texas Mexico border.

Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office say that DEA agents located the truck in Lafayette and followed it into Texas. On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, the truck was tracked into the Beaumont area and was stopped on I-10 near the 848-mile marker.

A search of the 18-wheeler yielded $500,219.00 in cash along with a handgun, according to a release. The driver was interviewed and had no knowledge of how a suitcase full of cash got into his vehicle.

Officers report that the driver was identified and released. The cash and gun were seized

The investigation continues.
