The community came out for a blood drive in support of a Milton Volunteer Fire Department Captain.

The drive was to support Captain Mike Broussard who underwent surgery and is receiving physical therapy after breaking his femur. The blood donated during the drive will help defray medical costs.

Those who came to support the captain gave blood in front of Nunu’s Fresh Market in Youngsville. Broussard has been a member of the MVFD since 1986. And organizers say that in his 32 years as a firefighter he has helped countless people in the community.

"It has been amazing to see the support and how many people my dad has helped have come forward. They’re now telling their stories of how he’s helped them and they tell us why they want to help him as well," Broussard’s daughter Reagan Richard said.
